Japanese architect Tadao Ando‘s first project in New York City now has more details, and its first visuals to boot. It is an residential building project in New York: 152 Elizabeth Street in Nolita.
The redevelopment project for high-end developers Sumaida + Khurana is located at 152 Elizabeth Street on the corner of Kenmare and Elizabeth Street and will see an existing building transformed into a luxury residential structure 3,000-square-metre.
The structure embrace the industrial character of the area. Gabellini Sheppard Associates will serve as Architect of Record and will work on the interior design. The building will accommodate eight residences, ranging between 175 and 450 square metres, and with between two and five bedrooms.
A serene rooftop terrace graces the crown of the building. It will be constructed using in-situ concrete, galvanised steel and large expanses of glazing – materials that Ando has used for many projects. Construction is due to commence within the next few months with completion set for 2016.
