Enrico Realacci Architectures and OCRA Architects, received an honorable mention in the competition “Design Stephenson 86”. The restricted contest, had a jury headed by Mario Cucinella of MCA and was promoted by Liuni on behalf of Alinvest.
The purpose of the competition was to design a directional quality building, in order to attract potential buyers or tenants and to improve the overall image of Stephenson Street placed within an industrial district on the outskirts of Milan, in the middle of a system of infrastructures and touched itself by the transformations related to Expo 2015 and Fiera Milano.
The project area includes an old building – to be demolished and replaced. The area is owned by the company Alinvest Ltd. and the competition was sponsored by the company Liuni Ltd.
“The first question was to identify the constraint of belonging to the territory to be given to the new building, so the building itself could be the trigger for a mending process of this portion of urban fringe. We We worked on the permeability of the area with large green areas and through deep visual cones while on the permeability of the building itself, designed for hosting important “public” functions and corporate ones.
A lightweight architecture, which incorporates the guiding dynamic infrastructure allowing for quick perception or slow exploration and on a human scale: The building consists of long partially suspended partitions, made of laminated wood beams, so they can be crossed without the need to cross the entrance” Source an images Courtesy of OCRA Architects.
