Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is working towards the realisation of a new Collection Building in the Museumpark in conjunction with the City of Rotterdam and Stichting De Verre Bergen (‘The Distant Mountains Foundation’), a socially engaged philanthropic organisation based in Rotterdam.
Visitors to the new Collection Building will encounter a spectacular and inviting building, adding an eye-catcher with international allure to the Museumpark ensemble.
The new building is needed because Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s existing depots no longer satisfy the modern-day requirements. Besides enabling the museum to store and manage its own collection under optimal conditions, the new Collection Building means it will also be possible for private collectors to entrust their collections to the museum’s care.
Collectors will be able to rent space in the museum’s storage facilities and take full advantage of our conservation expertise. Certain areas of the Collection Building will be open to the public. In these public spaces the museum is keen to demonstrate what ‘working with art’ entails.
Exhibition design concepts
In the autumn these five design concepts will be displayed in a presentation at the museum, allowing the public to gain insight into the jury’s decision regarding the winning submission. Source Museum Boijmans.
