OMA wins bid to transform Rijnstraat 8

Rijnstraat 8OMA, BAM and ISS, working as the consortium PoortCentral, have been awarded the contract for the renovation of Rijnstraat 8 – formerly the office of the VROM Ministry in The Hague, that will be transformed from the traditional headquarters of a single government department to flexible office spaces suitable for multiple organisations.
Rijnstraat 8The Renovation Rijnstraat 8 project entails the renovation of an existing building originally, designed by Jan Hoogstad in the 1993, bringing greater transparency and  opening it up to the adjacent public space. The building will house the ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service and the CAO (central organisation for the reception of asylum seekers).
Rijnstraat 8The building will become a flexible government office: it will be suitable for multiple organisations, not just a single government department. The project has been established in cooperation with Ector Hoogstad Architecten, Wessel de Jonge Architecten, YNNO, DGMR, ARUP, BAM Advies & Engineering and Valstar Simonis. The consortium, consisting of BAM PPP PGGM, BAM Utiliteitsbouw, BAM Techniek and ISS Nederland, is supported by Rabobank International and Allianz Global Investors Europe.
Rijnstraat 8Financial Close is expected to be achieved in July. The joint venture of BAM PPP and PGGM is the equity provider. The integral PPP contract has a duration of 25 years with a net present value of € 267 million. Rijnstraat 8 will be renovated in the period 2014 through 2016. The organisations involved are expected to move to the renovated building at the beginning of 2017.
