Ark-Kassam architects have designed a contemporary ten stories Office /commercial building in the heart of 8 Azar Street, Latakia city center. The new designed building is in the midst of a residential and commercial block of buildings.
The client desire was to design a building that attracts people in all ways possible to leave an artistic stigma in the neighbourhood. The design was introduced to enhance the main exposed facade of the building and its surroundings.
The main aspect of the proposal was to create a unique contemporary facade which makes a contrast to the surroundings through creating irregular mass projections that gives a kind of rhythm, breaks the monotony of its context and adds to the overall feel and impact of the design.
Another aspect of the proposal was to introduce the architecture of Azar Street to a new form of design in style and function. Nonetheless the design was introduced to change its surroundings, the main initial concept was derived from the elementary outlines of those neighbouring facades to keep a sense of originality in the overall scheme.
Glass was chosen as a main material to provide the natural lighting and transparency needed for the user and the scheme. The multi faces glassy projections enhance providing the natural light.
As sufficient energy consumption is always an advantage, we have applied a double glazing feature to reduce the over use of air conditioning within the building. Within the recesses of the facade’s projections a light feature has been applied to illuminate the facade at night in blue colour.
All features of the proposed building in shape and colour are related to the main feel of the coastal city and its atmosphere in a contemporary and stylistic way. Source by Ark-Kassam Architect.
