The bridge has been designed in accordance with Yerevan Master plan perspective transport scheme. This bridge creats a direct high-speed connection between South-Western District and Center District. This new road link will be an alternative aimed to ease significantly the heavy traffic in above mentioned direction.
The bridge resembles the outline of Holy Mount Ararat. It incorporates two types of bridge construction: suspension and cable stayed. The span of the bridge consists of three main parts: a large arch, small arch and suspension construction connecting them.
The arches are divided into two branches at their ends to get larger base area and make the bridge more stable.
The total length of the bridge is 307 meters and the difference between the lowest and highest points is 101 meters. The bridge is designed for two-way traffic. Both ways has two lines, 3.5m wide each. The traffic way of the bridge is illuminated by the lights installed in the guard timber construction instead of a common street lights.
The sidewalks are two-meter wide. The railings have 1.4m height and are tilted inward to be safe for the pedestrians. The lower part of the railings is a 50 cm high concrete structure. There are built-in lights there to provide the illumination of the sidewalks.
This concrete structure in the railings is continued to become glass that connects the metal uprights. This kind of use of the glass material enables passers-by to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The bridge has two funiculars for the pedestrians where the latters can admire the bird’s eye view of Mount Ararat, urban landscape and Hrazdan canyon while it is passing the arch, going down to the river, then up again and passing across the next arch.
