Sykehuset Østfold Kalnes sets a new standard for Norwegian hospital construction, based on the concept of reducing length of stay and optimising workflow. The hospital covers an area of 300,000 people in the region of Østfold, and is one of the largest new buildings in Norway.

The project includes in its 89,000 m2 four hospitals and psychiatry. The hospital is called “bright prospects” to emphasize the importance of context – not only for the architectural expression, but also as a healing element for patients and hospital staff as part of the everyday. The hospital is robust and compact in its layout, but it contains an optimal logistics and flexibility.
