From 12 August to 29 September 2017, DP Architects will present a seven-week exhibition, A Common Line | One Global Studio, showcasing 50 years of the firm’s architectural explorations.

A Common Line | One Global Studio curates DP Architects’ portfolio of works within the context of Singapore’s architectural history and the significant development of the urban landscape; as well as the firm’s global projects, designed as public nodes of human density that contribute to a city’s quality of life.

The works are presented through never-seen-before architectural drawings and models, specially reproduced for the exhibition. The exhibition prompts visitors to query the function of architecture and urbanism, reflecting the way in which factors such as socio-economic shifts, evolving cultures and climate change will continue to transform the built environment.

– Over 2,000 architectural drawings of selected projects, in chronological order, showcase the breadth of DP’s portfolio, presented in a vertebral column-like installation that traverses the entire exhibition gallery.

These drawings are carefully reproduced from archival drawings, blueprints and microfilms; and collectively chronicles DP’s ongoing exploration in shaping the public domain.

– Thirty-two new constructed models, at varying scales larger than typical building models, investigate the practice’s design methodology by typology and highlight architectural design that is unique to the respective typology, underpinned by an understanding of the needs of the different user groups.

– A specially commissioned wall-sized (3.6m x 3.6m) illustration, titled Building Blocks, by local artist, Lee Xin Li. The piece weaves together DP’s design explorations from sites of nostalgia to the architectural icons of tomorrow.

Resembling a collection of ‘cities within a city’, the illustration celebrates what DP has come to create in 50 years – structures that are imbued with the stories of everyday life, giving the cities we live in, a life of their own.

– An interactive visual display to explore and experience the evolution and transformation of Orchard Road and Marina Bay, two prominent and celebrated urbanscapes that have come to be regarded as symbols of Singapore’s progress. Source anf photos, Courtesy of DP Architects.
