The 12 finalist projects competing to win the YTAA 2018
YTAA 2018 received 334 Graduation Projects submissions from 118 Schools from all over Europe as well as from China and Korea, which participated as guest countries this year.
The jury based its decisions on the following criteria : quality of the topics, process of exploration, resolution, techniques used to represent the project as a whole, considering the aspects that could define excellence in each project such as originality, complexity, coherence, exploration and research, rigorousness and resolution, independent and critical thinking, study of emerging fields and engagement.
The jury highlighted the rigour of the research, the quality of the designs and the extraordinary skills used in the graphic presentations of the shortlisted works. It also drew special attention to the two graduation projects that have consisted in the construction of the designs, a model that could be more present in the forthcoming years.
85% of the projects that the jury shortlisted cope with topics in the author’s local environment and they all reveal the personality of each author and the way that each of them understands the aims of architecture.
The YTAA Awards Ceremony will take place on September 20, 2018 in Venice, together with a debate in which the theme of La Biennale di Venezia “Freespace”, the main topics of the “European Year of Cultural Heritage” organised by the European Commission and the YTAA works will be discussed by the YTAA winners, the jury members, the Future Architecture platform participants and other guests.
