Olympic Village, Fluvial Eco-district of the Île-Saint-Denis – PB Block
Petitdidierprioux Architectes will participate in the creation of the Olympic Village of the Fluvial eco-district of the Île-Saint-Denis (in the North-West of Paris) as both coordinators of the PB superblock and architects of PB8 and PB9 lots for the Groupement Pichet Legendre.
The landscaped archipelago
In the Fluvial eco-district of the Île-Saint-Denis (north-east of Paris), the PB superblock contains the widest diversity of typologies. Ranging from apartment buildings to intermediate housing, the footprint occupies a major place in the landscape. It links the Petit Bras de Seine (little arm of the river) to the north with the PA lot in the south.

It connects and unifies the whole landscaped composition in the eco-district. On the north side of the block, the positioning of the buildings in a staggered sequence offers several advantages, to:
– Perceive the Petit Bras de Seine from the public space
– Accentuate the continuity of the landscaping between the lots
– Connect the Petit Bras and Grand Bras (arm of the Seine) with a landscaped continuum
Architectural variations A shared set of rules is applied to the entire sector, by groups, or by building fronts:
– Anchoring in the ground: stone is the dominant characteristic on the front facing the Seine, with columns creating transparence and views of the dale. The rhythm and proportions of wooden joinery series apply the same pattern of the eco-district’s first phase.
– Varying hues: color is expressed in the materiality of the façades. Their warm tones subtlety echo the color schemes of the existing buildings. Wood, terra cotta, steel, lime, etc., in a range of materials whose natural pigmentation colors the projects.

Living together, responsibly
The lots PB8 and PB9 are developed with a structure mainly made of wood, as well as biosourced materials. The lot PB9 will be a participative building, i.e., the conception of a regular structural framework, vertical flows, technical cores and generous outdoor spaces can all be designed together.
Starting from the principle that there is no predefined form for the dwelling, it is thus redefined based on an in-depth analysis of new ways of dwelling. It is incumbent upon the dwelling to adapt to the occupant and not the other way around. The search for an alternative to standardized units of housing implies flexible architectural proposals at the scale of the building.
