Foster + Partners and B&B Italia unveiled the Cordoba Chair at this year’s Milano Design Week, the global benchmark event for the furnishing and design sector. Cordoba is a chair for lounging in, whether you are reading a book or enjoying a balcony view.
Using the structural and tactile attributes of timber, material is elegantly pulled and tensioned around the frame to create an extremely supportive seat. Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design,
Foster + Partners, said: “The Cordoba Chair is a timeless addition to the office or home. The ergonomics have been finely tuned to provide the highest level of comfort and support.” The two components of the wooden frame, which the seat is attached to, can be taken apart and put back together again by B&B Italia.
The L-shaped seating element is joined to the arms and legs by four metal spacers. The option to efficiently replace the seat material significantly extends the chair’s lifespan and contributes to a circular economy of repair and reuse.
Gilberto Negrini, CEO, B&B Italia, said: “B&B Italia is delighted to collaborate with Foster + Partners for the first time. Cordoba is carefully crafted from a refined palette of high-quality materials. The chair has an inherent sense of longevity, with the option to replace the seating material quickly and efficiently.”
The light-weight frames will be available in natural or black oak and stained timber. They will be accompanied by a carefully selected range of leather seating elements. Source and photos Courtesy of Foster + Partners.
