Situated on the Atlantic coast, Cascais is one of Portugal’s main destinations nearby the capital Lisbon. To give the entrance of the city a new identity, the area is undergoing a large-scale transformation.
This has resulted in the construction of a shopping centre and a number of small-scale residential buildings that match the city’s allure. A place previously characterized as a concrete jungle has been transformed into a relaxed green landscape.
Cascais is one of the main upscale tourist destinations in Portugal. Previously, the entrance of the city was marked by an outdated Jumbo supermarket and the surrounding parking lot.
In order to transform this area into a high-quality and green entrance, the shopping centre has been renovated and space has been created for 146 new apartments with a sea view.
The design gives a new identity to the entrance area, which matches the allure of the city. The parking has been placed underground to create a new public park.
The newly designed shopping mall with a food court and various spa facilities is fully integrated within the park. With their green facades, large outdoor areas, and green roofs, these buildings are an integral part of the landscape.
The entrance area of Cascais has changed from a sober grey area into a green park; a grand public space that combines various facilities for meeting and relaxation.
Along with the park and shopping mall, the first residential building was constructed. The complex has a unique location; close to the historic centre of Cascais and located next to the sea and beach.
The large glass windows take the exterior into the houses and create a smooth transition between inside and outside. The connection with nature and the beach can be experienced directly from the outdoor areas of the apartments in the form of balconies, terraces, and private gardens.
The horizontal facades ensure optimal daylight and offer a panoramic view of the sea landscape. Source by NEXT.
