Recently opened the new Warmtehub, designed by WE Architecten after winning the contract in 2012, represents a major step in the heating network sustainable city of Rotterdam.

The Warmtehub is a large installation for heating network from renewable sources, using waste heat from the port and distributing them to families and businesses in Rotterdam. At the same time, is a fantastic place, thanks to the canopy to Maashaven where you can enjoy the evening sun.

The location is still dominated by industrial activities with the ability to transform into the future to an area with a mix of spaces for living and working in a new promenade along the Maashaven.

The hub is the first building of the new development. The building has a rugged look that matches the character of the maritime industrial site. A flat roof and inclined connects the two main components, a tank for the accumulation and a heat transfer station, in a cohesive building.

Chromatically highlights the contrast between the white tank and roof Cor-ten. A large window on Brielselaan shows pumps and transformers and allows viewing of the station heat transfer satisfying the curiosity for the operation of the plant.

This type of construction is often realized as a closed object fenced and Brielselaan few interventions have had an open and public. The Warmtehub is the first building on Brielselaan connecting the area adjacent to the water system of the Nieuwe Maas.
