The government of Luxembourg announced today that the Miami-based architecture firm, Arquitectonica, is the winner of the competition for a major mixed-use project in Luxembourg City.
The global architecture firm won the bid for the complex in a competition that drew entries from notable names in architecture including Bjarke Ingels Group, Massimiliano Fuksas and Neutelings Riedijk Architects.
This 40.000 m2 complex will anchor the development of the new district of Kirchberg in Luxembourg, the European District North that houses the majority of the European Institutions.
The complex project combines retail, residential and office uses. It also creates a plaza at porte de l’Europe and a new tram station. It will connect the adjacent European Court of Justice and the Philharmonie Luxembourg.
The 27-story complex is the tallest in Luxembourg, signaling the urbanization of the capital of Luxembourg and European administrative district, says Fort-Brescia.
The design concept includes two green roofs that fold organically to connect the twin residential towers and office tower. Belgian real estate developer Allfin will be overseeing the project’s timeline.
This marks Arquitectonica’s second project in Luxemburg, the firm designed the corporate headquarters for the Bank of Luxemburg, one of the leading private banks in Europe. It is considered the icon of the city center at 290,000 square feet (27,000 m2).Source and images Courtesy of Arquitectonica.
