Japanese Festival 2016 Richard Rogers Centre, Florence (Italia) set-up design for the photo exhibitions of KENGO KUMA “lights and textures” NIO TATEWAKI “escultura do inconsciente”
For the occasion of the 2016 Japanese Festival in Florence, Studio Lauria signed the project to build a structure designed to display two photographic exhibitions: “Lights and textures”, dedicated to the architecture of Kengo Kuma, and “escultura do inconsciente”, one of the most successful photographic series of Japanese-Brazilian photographer Nio Tatewaki.
The pavilion, with plan measures of 14×4 meters and a height of 4 meters, was built in front of the civic center designed by Richard Rogers.
The load-bearing structure in multi-directional tubular steel was coated, on the two long sides, by a thread-like tissue. The inside, was supported by a weave wicker bamboo on which the photographic panels of the exhibits were positioned.
The overall result was an extremely lightweight structure playing with the concept of transparency that is very widespread in the Japanese architecture and strongly present in many works of Kengo Kuma.
The lighting was achieved by LED bars fixed on the top current of the structure. This way at night, they created a different effect: that of floating in the darkness of the square.
The Japanese Festival, organized by Lailac and sponsored by the Japanese Embassy in Italy, was visited by over 10,000 people, and is one of the most exemplary events of Japanese culture in Europe. Source by Studio Lauria.
