The building’s new design will feature residences, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms, situated across The Belnord’s 14 floors. In addition, over 9,000 square feet of state-of-the-art amenities will be incorporated into the building.  Many of the The Belnord’s hallmarks – including the private courtyard and the exterior architecture – are being restored to their original grandeur and further updated. Pricing starts at $3 million.

The Belnord is one of the greatest turn-of-the-century residential buildings, originally constructed in 1908 and designed by famed architecture firm Hiss & Weekes. It features an Italian Renaissance-style palazzo with a pair of magnificent, gated arched entryways painted with sgraffito frescoes. The Belnord’s base is comprised of rusticated, light gray Indiana limestone that is handsomely decorated with European-style terra-cotta decorative panels, elaborate design elements, and a stunning array of extra-large windows, all with classic weighted sashes and some with copper-clad bays.

The residences surround the expansive landscaped courtyard that is the building’s own verdant private park with the original fountain made of Vermont marble, evergreen and boxwood hedges, shade trees, flowers and elegant seating. The arrival experience at The Belnord begins with a pair of statuesque, gated and guarded arched entryways, which residents enter through a porte-cochere. The building surrounds the landscaped courtyard, and ground floor residence lobbies are positioned in each of the courtyard’s corners.

There is also a lobby located on 87th Street that provides another discrete entrance complete with its own concierge. Robert A.M. Stern Architects’ understanding of classic layouts and contemporary interiors has allowed the building’s original floor plans for the residences to be respected, yet completely re-envisioned to meet the needs of the modern homeowner. New open floorplans allow for easy appreciation of the building’s dramatic breadth, scale and volume. Each apartment boasts lofty ceilings, wide oak floors, sun-washed vistas and expansive dimensions.

Every home features a kitchen that has been thoughtfully-designed to enhance warmth and efficiency. The kitchens are available in two color palettes, both with Calacatta Gold marble counters, lacquer-painted or cerused oak cabinetry by Molteni and state-of-the-art appliances. Each master bathroom is large and lavish with sumptuous features like double sinks, a freestanding soaking tub and separate shower. Flush mirrors conceal bathroom cabinets over spacious double vanities.  All master baths are finished with Siberian White book-matched marble and rich platinum-finish Dornbracht fittings and hardware.
