The third edition of the design competition Pavilion Workplace 2023 – moduLAB, organized by USM and ADEYAKA, in collaboration with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, received more than 125 registrations: architects, designers and students from Spain, Italy, Portugal and Denmark presented their design with the aim of reflecting on current and future workspaces.
The competition proposed making use of the entire catalogue of the Swiss firm USM Modular Furniture, transforming the Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, as the ideal workspace.
The discerning jury, composed of Eduardo Arjonilla Sánchez, Katrin Eckert, Daria de Seta, Javier Guardiola Pila, and Maria Juul Løhde, with Yolanda Ortega Sanz overseeing the secretary, faced the task of selecting three proposals from the two categories: professional and student.
Their criteria centered around architectural excellence, furniture selection, and the creation of pioneering spaces, which ultimately determined the finalist proposals:
• Professional Category: Single Piece – Architects: Maria Camila Martínez, Maria Camila Joaqui, Manuela Molina, based in Spain
• Professional Category: Office Topography – Architects: Adrián Moreno Canosa, Pablo Toribio Fernández, estudio MoTA, from Madrid (Spain)
• Student Category: Fresh Air – Architecture student: Sean Moyano, School of architecture: Sapienza-Università di Roma, from Italy
The winning proposal will be reproduced in Virtual Reality and, in addition to the prize recognition, the first winner will receive a piece of furniture worth 2.500€. USM will also be pleased to welcome the winners at their headquarters in Münsingen, (Switzerland) designed by architect Fritz Haller.
The eagerly anticipated Award Ceremony, where the winners will be announced, is scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023. After the invitation-only event, the iconic Mies van der Rohe Pavilion will be open to the public, offering the opportunity for anyone to “experience” the winning proposal through Virtual Reality and learn more about the winning project.
