In the district around the central railway station, Utrecht is building the world’s largest bicycle park designed by Ector Hoogstad Architecten.

This bike park accommodates over 12,000 bicycles and provides a perfect bicycle infrastructure adjacent to the railway station, busses and trams. You cycle in and out, and each bicycle place is at a maximum of 4 minutes’ walk to the train station.

The design provides a safe and pleasant environment with ample daylight and high ceilings and surprising see-through opportunities. To use this bike park will be a spectacular experience.

“We wanted Station Square to be comprehensible again”, said Joost Ector. “These plans are all about creating comfortable public space and continuous connections with the historic center.

We untie the logistical knot and lay down a new organization that after decades of chaos will finally make this area as enjoyable as the rest of Utrecht’s beautiful city centre.”

Ector Hoogstad Architecten designed in collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV and Sant & Co this new connection to the old city center in the shape of a raised square. It also includes the design of all the surrounding public spaces, a large transparent canopy and the bicycle park.
