City Centre North to become Australia’s most dynamic transit oriented development Woods Bagot’s partnership with Urbis to define a 60 hectare expansion of the Greater Springfield CBD has been described as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ by Woods Bagot Principal Architect in Brisbane Mark Damant. The ‘City Centre North’ masterplan prepared by Woods Bagot and Urbis has provided a robust framework that is able to respond to the changing nature of the market, while also delivering certainty to the emerging city’s CBD which is fast being considered an alternative to Brisbane city.
The City Centre North masterplan vision will see interlinked distinct neighbourhoods activated, dotted with unique shopping destinations, a TOD precinct and education and innovation hubs as well as a cultural arts hub. The TOD precinct will provide a central location to travel with ease between work and home and enable users to not only obtain all necessary goods and services, but also be connected to a place that is flexible enough to bring trending and lifestyle experiences to users.
Convenience retail that directly relates to needs of the residents of Springfield will also be enhanced by a market hall that evokes the charm of local vendors. A retail hub will directly connect to residential buildings, with residents able to walk, cycle or conveniently park near their shop of choice, within an environment that places pedestrian outdoor amenity as priority.Mark explained that by understanding the needs of both individuals and communities, the team was able to create an environment that appealed to both children and adults alike.
