Milano Design Week is one of the most renowned design event in the world: every year Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone gather an international audience from all over the world – brands, architects, designers, professionals, students. This year the event has once again recorded a growth in terms of visitors – more than 386.000 from 181 Countries at the fair, with an overall rise of presence at Fuorisalone.

Tortona is the first and most iconical design district in Milan, the place where fuorisalone was born. Every year, during the Milan Design Week, it becomes one of the most popular and visited area of the city. Combining once again the international breath with the local realities, experimentations, products and synergies of both established and emerging brands, this year the district has registered more than 150.000 visitors.

Tortona Design Week’ services
Tortona Design Week 2019 has decided to add an innovative narrative method, accompanying visitors all along the exhibition route with a new system of interpretation: an augmented reality project developed in collaboration with Sense – immaterial Reality. Tortona Design Week has also brought an important renewal of the public space. In order to help the people to move around exhibitions and events, Alfonso Femia was called to design the TDW Infopoint.

Another public intervention was the one at Largo delle Culture yard, featuring the evocative installation by Italian architect Francesco Librizzi, created in collaboration with Silver Tre S.r.l. Through the extrusion of Tortona Design Week logo, Francesco Librizzi created a light architectural structure on the rotunda, suggesting and evoking the presence of a pergola that protects and reveals the urban garden.

The exhibitiors
Tortona Design Week 2019 has also brought a mix of big names and new proposals, product and service innovation, technology and tradition: from the automotive sector to the pharmaceutical one, from artisan experiments to technical ones, from product innovations to research. Different international realities have decided to join the district, bringing with them innovations, experiments and research: Russia, Portugal, Japan, Sweden, Germany, China,…

Tortona Design Week also chose to create a design network with foreign institutions, active and reference realities in the design world. Beirut Design Week, Design Shanghai, Lima Design Week, St. Petersburg Design Week were the partners of the 2019 edition, with which the district inaugurated a long-term collaboration project.
