Plans unveiled for 100% Shared Ownership Housing Development in Manchester City Centre

Shared Ownership Housing

Clarion Housing Group and H2O Urban have unveiled proposals for a new city centre residential development where 100% of the homes will be for shared ownership. The planned development, located in between Store Street and the Ashton Canal and within the Piccadilly Basin regeneration area, would provide 63 one- and two-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom townhouses.

Designed by Manchester-based AHR Architects, the new residential building would be an elegant addition to this emerging and well-connected district of the city centre. At 11 storeys at its tallest point and dropping down to four storeys fronting the canal, the design complements the historic features around the site such as the Ashton Canal towpath and the Store Street Aqueduct, with detailing and materials to reflect and respond to this setting.

Richard Cook, Group Director of Development for Clarion Housing Group, said: “We are aware of the demand for affordable housing in Manchester city centre. Whilst shared ownership is not the solution for everyone, our development will play a valuable role in expanding the options available within the city centre housing market, especially for people who currently see home ownership as out of their reach.”

Richard Thomas, Director at bloc, said: “We’re delighted to be unveiling these proposals in partnership with Clarion after working extensively on the designs for some time. This is a prominent site next to the Ashton Canal and we have taken a very careful approach to ensure the building integrates successfully into its location.” Source and images Courtesy of Clarion Housing Group.
