Plans for a ‘Museum of the Future’ in the city were revealed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

”The Museum of the Future will be an incubator for ideas and real designs, a driver for innovation and a global destination for inventors and entrepreneurs,” said Shaikh Mohammad at the launch.

The construction has begun in Dubai on the $136-million Museum and will open in 2017 in the Emirates Towers area near Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The architect Shaun Killa won the competition for the design.

Its oval design is really original with the light that enters the building through a perforated facade with Arabic script. The museum is meant to be much more than a pretty addition to Dubai’s architectural patrimony, though.

At a press event, Sheikh Mohammed announced that it won’t just showcase prototypes, but will also develop them in special innovation labs — fulfilling its official motto, “See the Future, Create the Future.”
