Post-Apocalypse Now is a futuristic vision of a city in the year 2287. All life forms on earth have now gathered in a few conurbations. The fusion of architecture, human life and technology ensures the survival of humanity in Mega Cubes. Seen from the outside, these Mega Cubes appear to be like isolated foreign bodies in a hostile environment. However, in fact, they represent self-sufficient survival arks which shelter the legacy of the once fertile world.
The designing of the city of the future begins with the analysis of the situation of cities today. Given the present-day rural exodus, it can be assumed that in the near future rural areas will not be able to compete with urban area as living space. After the people have withdrawn from the surrounding areas, taking resources from the environment will also decline. The continual further development of technology and its fusion with human beings will then enable a completely self-sufficient structure.
An additional important aspect of the evolving of urban Mega Cubes is the amalgamation of life forms, artificial intelligence in technology and architecture. Technical developments will at first simplify life for people, however, gradually human beings will come to depend on this technology more and more until humans will be replaced by technology as the leading form of life.
The machines’ appearance will tend to be orientated according to the centuries- old development of architecture with respect to the re-occurring architectural styles and their countermovements. Therefore the contemporary concise architectural scene which increasingly portrays organic buildings whose technical functions tend to be hidden from view will, in the towns of the future, be replaced by an opening up of exactly those functional structures.
